This game was made popular by the Windows operating system since it was one of the initial free games included with that operating system. The Windows version was actually based on an earlier version that was created in the late 1970s for a completely different computer system.

Since the game skyrocketed in popularity as a result of being included with the most popular operating system in the world, versions of it have been created for just about every conceivable platform. The game also has been tweaked and modified for optimal function on a touchscreen mobile device. The gesture controls let you drag and drop from any stack to another, and only the compatible cards will be moved. Any others will automatically return to their position. Cards that are no longer needed in the game and that are free to do so will automatically add to the foundation piles. You score points by making moves, so earning the fewest points possible is the goal.

You can only move the exposed card in each column, and the goal is to organize them in sequence and with an alternating color pattern. This organization will then allow you to build the suits up from their foundations that start with the Ace and lead through the King. You can use the hint function to make sure your moves are sound, and the menu contains options for starting a new game and undoing your previous moves.
